Viera’s Quarter Horses Philosophy

Helen grew up country on the back of horse. She started showing at age ten and won a national all round championship at age 15. Helen has taught many others to ride and show. Her father had his last heart attack in the winner’s circle with one of his race horses. Helen says her dad rides on her shoulder as she builds their personal line of quarter horses.

Bill is passionate about sure footed horses with a good head that you can count on in the mountains. He has stories of going down 45 degree angle hill with loose shale (sure footed-level headed horse). Another good story he tells is of being caught in an early blizzard, watching his horse check for rocks under the snow before he layed down to roll.

Moving to Wyoming rekindled the need to live with horses. Together the Viera’s developed a philosophy of what makes great horses. Everything starts with confirmation and intelligence.

We learned early on the difference in adult horses we handled from birth vs. ones we bought. Imprinting is not mystical or magical, but its effects can seem like it with the ease in which you can handle and teach our colts as they mature. One of our good stories is about Sassy who had her third foal with us with her. After she cleaned it up, nursed for the first time, she nudged it over to us saying now do what you are supposed to do.

We have successfully line bred for disposition, confirmation, and intelligence who are also great athletes. We approach the process with passion and considerable research on breeding.

Just to top it off our studs are a golden harvest of color: buckskin, palomino, and dun.
